The Ridgway Chamber Open is not only a great day out on one of Colorado's most beautifu golf courses, but sponsors and players are directly advancing the local business community and the community as a whole. The Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce will continue with the model launched in 2017 of returning 100% of net proceeds from the Open, including sponsorships and donations, directly to the local business community.
The proceeds from 2017 provided small matching grants to brick-and-mortar members for outside upgrade projects. These external improvements positively impact the entire business community and were awarded to the Sherbino Theatre, Provisions Cafe and Citizens State Bank in Ridgway.
The profits from the 2018 tournament launched the Ridgway Youth Apprenticeship Program. In an effort to support our local businesses' long-term, talent pipeline and better connect our youth with the business community, the Chamber's Youth Apprenticeship Program paired three local students with three businesses: RIGS Fly Shop & Guide Service, Cowgirl Creations Flowers & Gifts, and Lucky Find Consignments for summer 2019. Though the 2018 Golf Open proceeds were only enough for those three apprenticeships, Mountain Girl Gallery and Beautifully Served by Jill applied for the program and promoted apprenticeships (funded independently) as well.
The number of apprenticeships each year is entirely determined by the amount of proceeds from the Ridgway Chamber Open – the greater amount that is raised, the more apprenticeships we can offer in 2020. So, please come out and play, sponsor and support!
8:00am - Registration and Breakfast-to-go
9:00am - Shotgun start
Following tournament play - Awards Celebration and a "Taste of Ridgway" lunch at the beautiful Divide Ranch & Club clubhouse with food from our local businesses and live music with David Nunn!
The mature, award-winning golf course that’s the centerpiece for Divide Ranch & Club offers 7,039 yards of challenging play. It also offers some of the most extraordinary views imaginable.
The 18-hole tournament is a shotgun start, scramble format. Here's how the scramble format works (using 4-person teams):
The team’s designated “captain” has the final say on ball choice during play. They are also entrusted with keeping the play moving, ensuring the accuracy of the team score cards and signing off on the team’s final score.
Mulligans are available for purchase ($10/each and limit 2 per player, 8 per team). Purchase can be made directly during the online registration process.
The most important thing is that folks have fun! ☺
There are prize opportunities from first to last place, so everyone really does win!
Sponsors directly advance the local business community and community as a whole. Most sponsorship tiers also include player registrations.
The Ridgway Chamber Open will have dozens of prizes and a new trophy! This includes team prizes for placement across the whole scoreboard from hole #1 to #18, as well as Hole-in-One and Longest Drive challenges. These are all made possible by the generous contributions from local business.
Local business success is predicated on local talent. In an effort to support our local businesses' long-term, talent pipeline and better connect our youth with the business community, the Chamber launched the Ridgway Youth Apprenticeship Program with our first apprenticeships in summer 2019.
The program provides scholarship-based apprenticeships to students from Ridgway schools. The apprenticeships are four-plus days per week for six weeks or more. Students have a specific job with a chamber member business, and receive ongoing training and professional development above and beyond a traditional summer job. In exchange for providing training and professional development, the business receives extra staffing capacity during the busy summer months at significantly less cost to the business than a traditional employee. Businesses also develop potential future talent/employees and receive some funding to support the apprenticeship. Youth receive an end-of-season bonus, real-world job training and professional development and a unique resume booster.
The number of available apprenticeships for 2020, as well as the amount of monetary support that apprentices and employers receive at the end of the season, will be entirely determined by the proceeds from the 2019 Ridgway Chamber Open, so please come out and play, sponsor and support!
This is just one way that the Chamber is striving to better connect local business with local education, and one more reason to join the Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce and join us for the Ridgway Chamber Open.
