Ride the Rockies comes to Ridgway Colorado

Ride the Rockies stops in Ridgway

Ride the Rockies makes a stop in Ridgway as part of the 2017 route, and will be welcomed with local art, wonderful cuisine, and live music from The Sextones.

Ridgway, Colorado (June 2nd, 2017) The 2,500 riders participating in the 2017 Ride the Rockies challenge are making a stop in Ridgway on Wednesday, June 14th, and leaving for Montrose on the morning of Thursday, June 15th.

Hartwell Park has entertainment for both the riders and locals during the day and into the evening on June 14th. Festivities at the park begin at 2:00pm, with a ‘pop-up’ arts festival featuring several of Ridgway’s creatives, giving an opportunity for individuals to shop and peruse the incredible local art of the area. The Sherbino Theater Company, the newest community theater group in Ridgway, is serving up dinner in the park, and the Ridgway Chamber will have O’Dell beer for sale. Live music from The Sextones, out of Reno, begins at 6:30pm with a mix of funk and rock, great for those looking to dance, or for those who want to just sit back and relax for the rest of the summer evening.

The Ridgway Secondary School will act as ‘home base,’ for the riders with outdoor camping, showers, and indoor camping in the auditorium in the case of inclement weather. On the morning of the 15th, The Student Council of the Ridgway High School will be preparing and serving breakfast for the riders before they depart for Montrose.

The volunteers helping with the logistics in welcoming and supporting 2,500 riders, and the community groups that have stepped up to help with meals for the cyclists are a crucial component to making this stop in Ridgway a fun and safe event for everyone. Community Coordinator Jasmine Oeinck states, “This wouldn’t be possible without everyone who has stepped up to volunteer. I feel lucky to live in a community that is full of individuals willing to volunteer their day (s) for the Ride the Rockies event.”

As the saying goes, ‘it takes a village,’ and in this instance, it takes a whole town; between local business, restaurants, volunteers, and community groups working together to make the Ride the Rockies stop in Ridgway a safe and fun event for all.
