Biking, Hiking, Running

There are plenty of trails within a few minutes drive from Ridgway within the San Juan Mountains, including Mt. Sneffles and Cimarron Wilderness and surrounding BLM lands. Ridgway Area Trails (RAT) are a series of interconnected trails in and around the town of Ridgway. From the Weaver Trail System and the Angel Ridge Trails (both accessible from Town Park) to high alpine trails such as the Dallas Trail, more than 40 miles of single track and hiking routes are located in some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. From day trips to backpack trips there are many choices.
Everyone knows that training at altitude in the Colorado mountains is the best way to get in shape and be inspired. Our local cross country and track teams, who rank in the top places at many competitions, prove the value of high altitude training. Local nonprofits also organize a variety of fun runs from spring to fall, and the annual RAT Race is a signature event for mountain bikers. Ridgway and Ouray County are also well-known for having some of the most challenging, adventurous running races such as Mount Sneffels Marathon and Half-Marathon and the Hardrock 100-mile Endurance Run.
To show off our great biking environment, Ridgway will also be host to the 2017 Ride the Rockies bicyclists this June. The whole community will be coming out to support this fun, statewide athletic event.
