Alt Space Coworking is RACC October 2025 Member of the Month

The Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce is recognizing Alt Space Coworking as our October 2025 Member of the Month. The Member of the Month program is an ongoing effort by the Chamber of Commerce to provide residents and visitors with information about businesses and organizations in the area and promote the patronage of our local resources and our small, independent companies. We had the opportunity to talk to Hana Morrison and Elijah Brown about how the freedom of van life and remote work inspired them to settle down in Ridgway and provide a hub for the modern, working class nomad.
Q: Please introduce yourselves and your business.
A: We’re Hana and Elijah, the new owners of Alt Space Coworking. We provide shared workspaces and private offices in Ridgway, Telluride, Montrose, and Grand Junction. People come to Alt Space to work, host events, and connect with the local business community.
We took over the business in June, and moved the Ridgway location from our previous spot on Rollans Park to the second floor of The Old Firehouse. As Ridgway residents, the Firehouse location is our home base so a lot of love and hard work was poured into bringing it to life.
Q: What can people expect when booking a work day at Alt Space?
A: Alt Space has everything you need for a productive and comfortable workday: fast internet, call booths, conference rooms, standing desks, and free cold brew, kombucha, and seltzer on tap. You can come in for just one day, get a 10 punch pass, or sign up for a monthly membership.
One of the biggest perks is having access to all four locations across the Western Slope. Living in a remote town like Ridgway means that travel is a part of life, whether it’s for errands, health, or play. Need to take a meeting on a powder day? We’ve got call booths in Telluride. Doctor’s appointment in GJ? There’s a desk waiting for you. Alt Space makes it so you can fit work easily around the other parts of your life, so you don’t have to lose a whole day just because you’re on the road.
We wanted to be part of the growing community here and do our part to help Ridgway realize its full potential as a classic, yet progressive Colorado mountian town, with a tight-knit communtity and plenty of opportunity for fun, connection, creativity, and craft.
Q: What advice would you give to someone who is interested in starting a business in Ridgway, Ouray County, or the Western Slope?
A: Our community really wants to see new businesses open and succeed. As long as you’re moving with integrity and providing real value, your neighbors will do their best to rally behind you. Make sure to offer a product or service that locals can afford to shop weekly or monthly, so that they can keep showing up for you.
Q: What does the future look like for Alt Space?
A: Now that the business is stabilized, we’re starting to explore expansion opportunities. We’ve been taking field trips beyond our current radius to visit other coworking spaces and figure out who might want to partner with us, or get absorbed into the Alt Space network.
It’s currently just the two of us answering the phone, delivering kombucha kegs on Saturdays, hosting events, doing the legwork. Once we have a few more locations, we’ll be able to hire a Regional Manager and that will make a big difference.
Q: Anything else you would like the Ridgway community to know?
We decided to step into this role because we believe in the value of coworking, especially in rural communities. When we first arrived on the Western Slope, we were full-time van lifers trying to grow our businesses (outside of Alt Space, Hana is still a brand designer, and Elijah is in real estate). Alt Space became a haven for us: it’s where we found the space to be productive, and where we made our first friends in town. It’s really been a core part of our life in Ridgway and now it’s our pleasure to now be serving the community and carrying that torch
