We sat down with CEO Cory Phillips, Dr. Joel Gates, and Supervisor Susie Blakney.
How was Cedar Point Health formed?
Montrose Internal Medicine, the original organization from the 70s, noticed that primary care providers were leaving the region due to the challenges of providing care as a solo practice. As an attempt to keep serving the region, the organization reached out to long-standing primary care practices and proposed a collaborative partnership. Fast forward six years and Cedar Point Health continues to be a doctor-led organization, and still has one of the founding members, Dr. John Lambert.
The Ridgway location was originally part of St. Mary’s Medical Center in the early 2000s and then transitioned to Mountain Medical Center. Two decades later, in mid-2022, Mountain Medical Center, Ridgway’s former practice, merged with Cedar Point Health.
What separates the Ridgway office from others?
With a history of being around for over two decades, most of the our staff know their patients on a first-name basis and have developed long-lasting relationships with not just their patients, but also the Ridgway community. While all locations offer exceptional primary care, the Ridgway location provides:
- Primary care such as preventative care, screenings, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, management of specialty care, skin lesion removals, and more.
- Aesthetics including Dysport-Frown Line injectables, Restylane- Hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers, Sculptra- Facial injectables, and Microneedling.
The Ridgway location does their best to accommodate walk-ins depending on scheduling and resources available.
How is Cedar Point Health involved in the local communities?
We sponsor various community events, such as the Bosom Buddies Walk Run and Ridgway School District R-2’s fundraisers. Not only did we sponsor the San Juan Trail Tri, but we also had two teams participating and were placed in third and fourth out of sixteen teams.
What is going on in July for Cedar Point Health – Ridgway?
This is a big month for us! Our long-time Nurse Practitioner Alison Joseph will transition full-time to Cedar Point Aesthetics, which will be having a Grand Opening celebration in Montrose on Wednesday, July 12th. The celebration will include a raffle, refreshments and 10% off skincare products. This also means that we’ll be expanding our aesthetics services at our Ridgway location. We are also excited to welcome two new providers, Nurse Practitioner Susan Dockins and Physician’s Assistant Lee Dockins, to our team. Both providers are accepting new patients.
Do you provide a sliding scale for those who are uninsured?
For the community, we do our best to accommodate our patients if they are uninsured. We want our patients to be able to afford primary care, so we offer a 20% off discount for cash pay patients, as well as provide payment plans if needed.
What do you value about being a Ridgway Chamber member?
We’ve been members for years, even when we were Mountain Medical Center, and it has always been beneficial for travelers to have our practice listed on the ridgwaycolorado.com website as well as in the directory and visitor guide.
